HAKIM (cole) 4:36 recorded in September 2002 at "Groovey Cellar" studio. featuring:Tom Spampinato on drums, Guhl on dumbek,khanjera, frame drum, Pat Madison- 12 string acoustic guitar, Mike Lyons -flugelhorn, trumpet, Troy Cole on acoustic bass guitar, Brad Newal-violin, classical guitar, mandolin This song is based on a melody from a pop song that was heard in Cairo. 2. AL BAQARA (cole) 7:23 (electric quintet) recorded April 20th 2003 at Weaver St. Market. Featuring: Vishnu Gangadaran-electric piano, Antonio Arce-drums, Guhl-darbuka,khanjeera, oud, Soner Cicek- oud,balima,ney,rebhab,darbuka, Troy Cole-acoustic bass. This piece was written while watching the news showing the intifada in palestine. Al Baqara translates into "the holy cow" refering to Moses' people worshiping false idols. "they aim to deceive god and those who believe, but they deceive none except themselves and they do not perceive it" 3. Featuring: Vishnu Gangadaran-electric piano, Antonio Arce-drums, Guhl-darbuka,khanjeera, oud, Soner Cicek- oud,balima,ney,rebhab,darbuka, Troy Cole-acoustic bass. The title comes from a book written by Joseph Campbell. The idea that all religions, myths, fairytales and stories are all related and are basicly one idea translated with different charcters. After a bit of arabic tweaking, it became "Heya Heya"-Egyptian slang= "the same as" 9. Featuring Guhl-oud,darbuka,khanjeera, Pat Madison-acoustic guitar, Chris Conley-djembe, Troy Cole-acoustic bass. A Hindu term. It means release, absolute release from virtue. A good definition is - The infinite transforms Itself into the finite and appears before the worshipper as god with form. And a good example would be something like the Virgin Mary sightings. It's a powerful thing, and it's what inspires us for this piece.
