Troy introducing the Egyptian JAAFAR ensemble

Arriving in Cairo Egypt with only 2 days before the first JAAFAR performance, need i tell you the pressure one could feel to find the right musicians to perform with? The evening before the first show at Sakiet Culture Wheel, i was put into contact with Islam(ud player) and Tarek(tabla player) through an engineer at the BBC in Cairo. A 2 hour rehearsal before the show proved to be enough. The performances in Egypt turned out to be a perfect mix of "Eastern" and "Western" communication through the music of the soul. JAAFAR takes the similar aspects of all "world music" (improvising) and unites it to form a very new and interesting sound. This tour was a success. To read more....
